MagNET concentrates its message on an intense will of attracting, including, holding together, so that the public space can be conceived as the flag of urban civilization.

MASTERPLAN

Currently, the center of Gjian is split in two because of the M25-3 regional road that monopolize the axis strategic for the development of the city. Cars crowd spaces so public pats come to insufficient and fragment.
MagNET proposes a reconnection between two parts, turning public spaces, today perceived as residual spaces, into a multifunctional complex system, which is able to redevelop the axis and create a linear park along the future Mirusha Park. The current urban axis turns into a walking and cycling public space, green areas and social spaces, which constitute also an important environmental system able to produce energy from renewable sources, to collect wastewater useful for sewage disposal, to decontaminate the ground through herbal purification ponds.
The tyre mobility system will be guaranteed by burying a section of the road. Only a slow way for local mobility and public transport crosses the area of the project. A underground park system serves the entire area.
New flows will invade the area of the project and the entire city. These flows, attracting by pre-existences that work as a generator magnetic poles, create same as vortex able to amount to different urban spaces.
MagNET materialize itself in a moon space, almost fantastic, where the crater identify many spatial and functional environments in the city: urban rooms, playground, showplaces, thematic gardens and water mirrors. A new landascape able to live and adapt itself to various temporal phases and different seasons.
MagNET is conceived to spill over the entire city, a model that works as an oil stain in the built places, regenerating them on urban, economic and socio-cultural points of view in order to turn Gjilan in an adaptable city.

THE SQUARE

The urban boulevard crowns in a big square on many levels, connected to the surrounding buildings that sustain it: the municipality building, the cultural center and the hotel. Three big tectonics elements, that emerge from the ground, three similar but different parts that sustain the big suspend square. The role of the building of three volumes cancels out to makes to the role of majestic supports that create a new landmark in a mainly plate city. The three shapes celebrate the apotheosis of the public space, as “Menhir” or modern “Dolmen”, where the big central surface seems to rise like a space shuttle.
The shape of the square derives from the necessity to create a strongly identifying element able to generate a container space. Various flows cross it setting up many functional areas: meeting space, suspended gardens, big open air theater. Below the paraboloide, a cover square reminds to interaction and social exchange, hybridizing itself between the underground park and the over ground space.
The suspended square, dovetailing with the buildings, misshapes, punches and penetrates them, creating various typologies of public and private, cover and open, internal and external spaces.

THE BUILDINGS

The track on the ground of the three volumes follows the space requirements of the announcement. The three volumes are conceived as part of a system aims to requalification of the peopled space increasing of the public functions and spaces addressed to collective activities.
Every building has a regular form that close to the suspended square withstands a deformation due to a propelling force of the public space that creeps into them, generating three different contact way.

THE CULTURAL CENTER

The volume is a seven floors bulding in which the suspended square generate an hole such to perforate the building from part to part creating a perspective cone that sets the work in progress linear park, toward the west of the city. At altitude +12.00, the pierced part of the building becomes a cover square from which you can admire the surrounding view. The building is composed by a large central atrium at the groundfloor, in which are inserted two cylindrical bodies that host a conference room and a relax area. At the last floor, the Auditorium.

THE HOTEL

The tower is the tallest of the three buildings and the contact with the suspended square originate an internal swirl that reminds to a ventilated chimney, going in height through the entire building across a reticular knit that guts part of every floor until the coverage.
The portion deformed by the contact with the suspended square interest the first four floor in which take place the public functions, like the meeting area, with the conference rooms and the restaurants, the beauty center and the gymnasium, usable by the hotel clients and not. From the fifth floor are deployed the room of the hotel.

THE MUNICIPALITY BUILDING

The municipality building is a court building which is spread over five levels. The court represents a bioclimatic greenhouse surmounted by a brises soleil system that in winter allows the transit of the solar ray and the heat storage; in the summer it shields the internal space. Through an opening system the court allows the ventilation and then the control of the microclimate of the building.
At the ground floor the building is composed by three ovoid elements containing specific functions more collective, as the council room and the wedding room.
The big court is crossed by suspended gangway that make dynamic the space. A roof garden is linked to the suspended square.

THE PHASES

It has been provided four different esecutive phase aim to the realization of the project:
1. 2103: Start of works to bury the section of the road.
2. 2015: Start of works for the realization of green system and public space along the project area and the future Mirusha linear park.
3. 2017: Start of works for the construction of three building: cultural center, hotel ad municipality building.
4. 2020: Start of works for the construction of suspended square.

REFERENCES

The antique theater is one of the principal reference. In the theater il concept of the space has various meanings: the first is the physical space, the place of the representation able to attract, as a big magnet, and to contain a big number of viewers. The second one is the space of imagination, a metaphyisical space, a mental place that is evoked, thanks to the imagination of the viewer a to the mastery of the artist, where the temporal element, the theatrical time has the upper hand on individual time, involving the public to return to own usual time, when the curtain falls.
As Greek and Roman theaters, MagNET wants create big and small container of events and ideas, where the citizen is at the same time spectator and actor. Same as stop places that suspend the frentetic paces of the contemporary city.
